What changed
The Skills API exposes a Notion skill as a directory containing its SKILL.md instructions and supporting files. It also supports downloading groups of skills as plugins.
Notion published a GitHub sync starter kit. Vercel's skills CLI can install a skill from its Notion URL or browse available plugins.
This extends the reusable instructions introduced in Notion 3.7.
Why it matters
An operations team can maintain a review process in Notion while an engineer runs those instructions in a local agent. The distribution method needs an owner: a manual download and a scheduled sync have different maintenance requirements.
Downloading files does not prove that an agent loaded them or that later changes will arrive automatically. Check installation and refresh behavior in the receiving tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Notion skill include code and assets?
Yes. Supporting files and folders can accompany the main SKILL.md instructions through the skill's Files property.
Does the Skills API automatically sync every local agent?
No. The API provides the files; a configured integration handles recurring distribution. Notion's GitHub starter kit is one implementation.
How is this different from downloading a skill manually?
A manual download creates a local copy. An API integration can repeat that transfer on a schedule, depending on how it is configured.
