Notion AI credits explained: Standard vs Select, and what changes on November 2

What changed
Notion replaced its patchwork of AI limits with one credit system that covers Notion Agent, Custom Agents and many outside AI tools used through Notion. Each Business and Enterprise seat now includes two monthly pools:
- 1,500 Standard credits for work where Notion chooses the model (for example, when the model is set to Auto).
- 500 Select credits for work where you choose the model yourself, and for running Custom Agents.
Admins can buy additional credits for the workspace. Extra credits can fund shared Custom Agents, high-consumption models such as Fable and Astra, and usage beyond the included pools.
Key dates
- October 19, 2026: the credit system is live for new customers.
- November 2, 2026: existing workspaces move over. Admins receive an email with details.
- At renewal: customers whose contracts have not yet renewed get the same Standard and Select credits as everyone else from November 2, and credits are set by plan at renewal.
What it means for your workspace
The split between Standard and Select is the thing to plan around. Anything that pins a specific model, and every Custom Agent run, draws from the smaller Select pool. Team Custom Agents draw from Select credits by default, even when other people trigger them.
Notion says "the vast majority of users are unlikely to run out of monthly credits," and that Custom Agent runs cost about 30% less after the rebuild. Teams running several always-on Custom Agents should still check usage in the first weeks after November 2.
What to do before November 2
- List your Custom Agents and how often each runs. These are your Select credit consumers.
- Switch agents that do not need a specific model to Auto, which Notion says is about 90% cheaper on average for common tasks.
- Decide who can create and run shared Custom Agents. Admin spending limits arrive with the AI Command Center, which Notion lists as "coming soon."
