Notion rebuilds its agents: 24-hour tasks, a cheaper Auto model router and "Review for me"
TL;DR
On October 19, 2026 Notion shipped a rebuilt agent harness. Notion Agent and Custom Agents can now work on a single task for more than 24 hours (up from five minutes), a new Auto router picks the model per task at roughly 90% lower cost, and a "Review for me" mode checks risky actions before they run.

What changed
Notion rebuilt the system that runs Notion Agent and Custom Agents. The release, titled "Agents, rebuilt to do more for less," bundles five changes:
- Long-running tasks. A single agent task can now run for more than 24 hours. The previous ceiling was five minutes.
- Its own computer and browser. The new harness gives agents a sandboxed computer and browser, plus smarter context management for long jobs.
- "Review for me" mode. A separate model checks whether an action is safe before the agent takes it.
- Auto, an upgraded model router. Auto matches each task to a model on quality, speed and cost, and switches models if the current one stops making progress.
- Speed. Notion says agents run up to 50% faster on web and mobile, and Custom Agent runs cost about 30% less in its testing.
Why it matters
Five minutes was the hard limit that pushed serious automation out of Notion and into Zapier, Make or code. A 24-hour ceiling means an agent can now work through a backlog, reconcile a large database, or research across connected tools in one run instead of being chained together.
Auto matters for cost. Notion reports that across 20+ common tasks, Auto produced results similar to Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost, which it says makes credits go about 10x further. Those are Notion's own benchmarks, so test on your workloads before relying on them.
How to use it
- Open a Notion Agent chat or a Custom Agent and leave the model set to Auto unless a task needs a specific model.
- For agents that edit shared databases or send messages, turn on Review for me so risky actions are checked first.
- Give long tasks a clear finish line in the instructions (for example, "stop when every row has a status") so a 24-hour budget is not spent wandering.
Notion Coach take
This is the biggest practical change to Custom Agents since launch. The workflows we previously split across three or four agents with handoffs can now be one agent with one set of instructions. The trade-off is spend: long runs consume credits, and the admin spending controls (the AI Command Center) are still marked "coming soon." Set conservative scopes until they ship.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a Notion agent run now?
As of October 19, 2026, Notion says a single Notion Agent or Custom Agent task can run for more than 24 hours. Before this release the limit was five minutes.
What is Notion Auto?
Auto is Notion's model router. It picks a model for each task based on quality, speed and cost, and re-routes to a different model if the first one is not making progress.
What does "Review for me" do in Notion AI?
It uses a separate model to check whether an agent's next action is safe before the agent performs it, which reduces the risk of unwanted edits or messages.
