Bring your own AI to Notion: use a ChatGPT plan to pay for Notion AI, and BYOK for Enterprise

Notion now lets ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Go subscribers connect their plan to their personal Notion Agent, so AI usage in Notion runs on their ChatGPT subscription with no markup. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) is in alpha for Enterprise. Custom Agents are not included yet.

What changed

Notion is opening its AI to subscriptions people already pay for:

  • ChatGPT plan in Notion. Announced in Notion 3.8 (October 13) for Plus and Pro, and extended to Go on October 19. Subscribers connect their ChatGPT plan to their personal Notion Agent, choose a GPT model, and their usage is covered by that plan. Notion says it adds no markup. The 3.8 notes list this for Business and Enterprise workspaces.
  • Bring Your Own Key (BYOK). In alpha for Enterprise customers, who request access through their Notion account team.

Custom Agents are not covered by a ChatGPT plan yet. Notion says more plans and surfaces are coming.

Why it matters

This is a notable move in how AI tools are sold. Rather than forcing everyone onto Notion credits, Notion is letting the model provider's subscription do the paying, and positioning Notion as the workspace and context layer. It pairs with the 3.8 push to make Notion the shared memory for outside agents through MCP.

For individuals, it means a ChatGPT Pro subscription now does double duty. For companies, BYOK is the path to running Notion AI on an existing enterprise model contract.

What to watch

  • Whether Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini) subscriptions get the same option.
  • When Custom Agents become eligible, since they consume the scarcer Select credits.
  • How admins can see and govern personal plans connected inside a company workspace, likely through the upcoming AI Command Center.
